Chapter Nine

Andrea didn’t speak to Harley for a couple of days. She tried to call, but every time she did, she thought that it was too awkward for them. So he figured things would get easier once they sat down and worked things out.

Still, hearing that Gregory knocked up Mary like that was both pathetic but also mildly hilarious. She thought it was funny the guy who hurt her got his just desserts, but now, it was time to come to terms with her feelings.

That she’d fallen for Harley.

Falling for her was different from what she thought. She thought she’d feel wrong, like she was making a mistake, but that wasn’t the way that this felt like. Instead, it felt like she was making the right decision, despite the fear that she had. It was quite riveting, and also, a bit terrifying.

"It’s a lot,” she said to herself.

She didn’t know whether or not Harley felt the same way, or if it was her imagination. She didn’t know the reality really. It was like she was torn on her feelings, and there was a lot that was going through her head.

Finally, Andrea decided the best thing to do was to go visit Harley. She made her way over to where the ranger station was, getting over there and stepping toward the doorway. When she got there, a guy looked at her with a slight surprise on his face.

"You’re that girl,” he said.

"Yeah, I’m here to see Harley. Is she available?” Andrea asked.,

"Oh yeah, I thought that she broke up with you. She’s been here every day for a long time. I’m glad that you two are still talking. She’s wrapping things up. By the way, I’m Jacob, I plan on being the head of this station and—”

"Hey there Andrea,” a voice said.

Andrea turned, and there was Harley. She looked so strong, secure, and tired of everything that this man had to say. Jacob quickly raced on out of there, scurrying away.

"Always trying to butter everyone up. I swear, Jacob can sometimes be the utter worst,” Harley muttered.

"He’s that guy who sees you as a rival, doesn't he?” Andrea said.

"Yeah, I’m always trying to do my job but he sees me as a threat. I try not to really let him get the best of me though. But in any case, it’s been a bit,” she said.

Andrea nodded. She wanted to talk to Harley about everything, and to explain her feelings.

"Yeah, I think I need to talk to you about what’s been going on. But not here. I’d rather we got to a more private place,” she said.

Andrea watched Harley check her watch.

"We have a few hours,” she said.

"What do you mean?”

"Of daylight. There is a place I want to take you, but it’s better during the day,” Harley said.

Andrea nodded.

"I see. Will things be okay here at the station?”

"Yeah. I got done early anyway, so I could use a break or two,” she said with a smile.

Andrea flushed, seeing the way that Harley looked at her.
